12/18/2009 - NBSF goes green with energy saving equipment

As a longtime advocate of ecologically friendly textile production, NBSF's domestic manufacturing facility completed the first phase of our 2 year mission to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
The project, introduced in the fourth quarter of 2009, involved a plant wide comprehensive energy audit and targeted specific measures to reduce electricity consumption. As part of our first phase, we replaced four old style rotary screw compressors with a new high- efficiency Sullair / Airtek compressed air system with the help of our longtime vendor Comairco Systems. This change results in a net savings of 300,000 kWh yearly, or the equivalent of removing 215 metric tons of harmful greenhouse gas emissions that we would generate each year. That is the equivalent of what over 25 households consume in electricity yearly.
Phase 2, expected to be complete by the second quarter of 2010 involves the replacement of over 80 inefficient high-bay lights with energy-star T-5HO fixtures and occupancy sensor technology. The new lighting, combined with the savings already realized from our more efficient compressor system will substantially reduce our dependence on coal-generated electricity sources, while providing a cleaner environment for our neighbors in the surrounding communities.

12/14/2009 – NBSF & NBCA push the envelope with M&R’s i-Screen direct to screen technology

NBSF and NBCA are among the select few high-volume printers utilizing M&R Print Equipment Incorporated’s i-Screen direct to screen digital imaging equipment. With multiple units installed at NBSF, and a new unit at NBCA our screen printing operations can now offer our customers the advantages in quality and performance that did not exist using obsolete film layup techniques.
With this new system, we are able to reduce screen handling, and provide greater image accuracy. The i-Screen Computer-To-Screen (CTS) imaging system uses M&R’s specially formulated water-based UV blocking ink and advanced inkjet technology  to deliver greater detail on screen, shorter exposure times and greatly reduced registration and setup steps on-press.
The time saved in pre-press using the M&R  i-Screen translates into more efficient production, and a higher quality reproduction. For more information on how your next production run can benefit from this new technology, contact your sales rep, or call us at toll-free at (800) 782-5951.
